Working with RSS Feeds

Complexity Level: Basic

Overview

This page explains the two main ways to work with RSS feeds in the Springboard:

  1. Import content from external RSS feeds into your website.
  2. Share your blog content with others using the Springboard's automatically generated RSS URLs.

What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a standard format that allows content to be shared between websites. It enables you to import content from other sites or share your content with others.

Importing External RSS Feeds

You can import content from external websites into your Springboard site using RSS feeds. When you import an RSS feed, articles from that feed will appear in your blog section.

Importing an External RSS Feed

  1. Go to My WebsiteLibrariesBlog Posts.
  2. Click the grey Manage RSS Sources button in the top right corner.
  3. Click the green Add RSS Source button.
  4. Fill in the following information:

    • Title: Enter a title for your RSS feed. This is for your reference, and will not display on your website.
    • Feed URL: Enter the web address of the external RSS feed you wish to import.
    • Category: Select which category you'd articles from this RSS feed to be automatically assigned.
  5. Click Save & Finish.

  6. Next to your new RSS Feed, click the gray Sync button. This will sync the articles from the feed to your Blog Post Library.

Organizing Imported Content

Create a dedicated category for each RSS feed source to keep imported content organized and easily identifiable. From the Blog Posts Library, click Manage Categories, then Add Category. Enter a Title that matches your RSS Feed, and click Save & Finish.

What Gets Imported

When you import an RSS feed, the Springboard will pull in the following information for each article:

  • Post date
  • Title
  • External link URL
  • Description
  • Author

Sharing Your Blog's RSS Feed

The Springboard automatically generates an RSS feed URL for each blog component on your website. You can share this URL with others so they can subscribe to your content.

Finding Your RSS Feed URL

  1. Click My Website, then Website Content.
  2. Click the title of the page that has a blog component.
  3. Click edit next to the gear icon to edit the blog component.
  4. Look for the RSS URL in the component settings (it will look something like: https://yoursite.org/rss/123456).
  5. Copy this URL to share with others.

Ways to Share Your RSS Feed URL

You can share your RSS feed URL in several ways:

  • Add it to your website with an RSS icon.
  • Share it on social media.
  • Include it in your email signature, or email marketing campaigns.
  • Send it directly to people who want to follow your content.

Multiple Blog Components = Multiple RSS Feeds

Each blog component on your website has its own RSS feed URL. This allows you to share feeds with unique content, by using multiple blog components with different categories. Each blog component will have a unique RSS feed URL that others can subscribe to.

Managing Imported RSS Feeds

Editing an Imported Feed

  1. Go to My WebsiteLibrariesBlog Posts.
  2. Click the gray Manage RSS Sources button in the top right corner.

  1. Go to My WebsiteLibrariesBlog Posts
  2. Use the dropdown menu to view your RSS category.

  5. Confirm deletion by clicking Yes, Delete Them.

Troubleshooting

Imported RSS Feed Issues

If articles aren't importing properly:

  • Verify the external feed URL is correct and active.
  • Check that the external site is publishing new content.
  • Force the system to look for new articles: click the Sync button next to the RSS feed source to force the system to look for newly published articles.

Your RSS Feed URL Issues

If others can't subscribe to your RSS feed:

  • Confirm you're sharing the exact URL from the blog component settings.
  • Make sure your blog component is set up correctly to display content.
  • Try subscribing to your own feed using a feed reader to test it.
